The Drug Dealer Scenario
Yes, there is a story behind the title of this post. While sitting around after work throwing around ideas which would become TuRedDeVida, my coworker told me that she had been stalked on a couple of the large social media platforms and had to actually close her accounts. After things cooled down for a while, she created an alias and eventually reopened a couple of accounts. She said that a part of the platform should be that it is secure and private. The only people that will know you are on the app are people that you want to know. Then she said, it’s the drug dealer scenario. I was like, what? She went on to say that if a drug dealer felt the app was secure and private enough to conduct business with their clients on it, a parent would feel that it was secure and private enough for their 13 year old child to be on it. Brilliant! Of course, this led into the discussion of doing other illegal and politically incorrect things on it! I’m not mentioning any here, so as not to give anyone ideas!
Flash forward to now, less than a year from when TuRedDeVida took shape. Look at all that has gone on in the tech and media world. Our personal chats, photos, and other data being scanned and sold by the very companies we trusted with our data. People being censored or shadow banned, meaning that their accounts or their posts were not immediately searchable, while others were not. This meant these companies were picking and choosing who was “offensive” and who wasn’t, based solely on their own biases. One of our promoted tweets were banned as potentially offensive for sexual content!
Maybe a little tacky but offensive? It looked like our drug dealer scenario was not just a part of the platform but would be the foundation of it.
TuRedDeVida believes that when you are on our app with an individual or a group of people, it’s like being in your living room. In your living room, you can talk to each other and show photos, etc. and not have to worry about hidden microphones or cameras recording what is going on. This is the exact opposite of what others in the tech and media world are doing when you entrust them with your data.
The time is now, more than ever, to have an alternative. TuRedDeVida is building that alternative.
